AYRSHIRE Film Company is ready to develop digital stars of the future after receiving a cash boost from North Ayrshire Ventures Trust (NAVT).
The social enterprise will receive £25,000 over three years from the grant programme to provide training to 10 out-of-work people from across the region.
After teaching them about video-making, podcasts, digital journalism, social media – and a whole lot more – the students will get hands-on work experience with another local organisation.
Ultimately it’s hoped that the skills they pick up will help them move on to a job, further education or another positive destination.
Taylor McInroy of Ayrshire Film Company said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received this funding and look forward to putting it to very good use.
“Our ‘Get Into New Media’ project is all about helping train 10 people – aged from 16-25 – about all things associated with new media.
“The training will last for six months and then we will work with other groups such and 3TFM and Ayrshire Community Trust to provide further hands-on and real life experience.
“We will provide ongoing support and training which we hope will give them all a real confidence and awareness of new media. We hope they will take that to move into a positive destination.
“That’s what we are all about. We are a social enterprise that supports young people and we want to do as much as we can to help them develop and progress.”
Ayrshire Film Company was established in 2014. The team film a range of community events, most recently the Ardrossan Castle Carnival, and fund a number of projects.
One of their most successful was Fitbashorts. This project sees young volunteers go out and film junior football matches, conduct interviews before editing and providing a full highlights package on YouTube.
Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The Ayrshire Film Company has already done so much in supporting the local community so we’re delighted funding from NAVT will help them reach out to support even more people.
“We are sure their latest project will have a really positive impact for the people taking part.”
NAVT was developed to enable voluntary, community and social enterprises in North Ayrshire to explore new opportunities to help them grow in size and improve long-term sustainability.
